Welcome to A Broad Abroad
How the (cool) world actually travels
Travel, for me, has never been about ticking boxes.
I’m not especially interested in “the must-see sights,” the perfect angle, or the places everyone agrees you’re supposed to love. I’m interested in why people end up where they do — what draws them there, what they’re running toward (or away from), and what a place reveals once you stay long enough to notice its contradictions.
That’s what A Broad Abroad is about.
It’s about the roads people don’t advertise, the hotels they whisper about, the destinations that feel different once the novelty wears off. It’s about chance encounters, quiet power, strange beauty, bad timing, good instincts — and the reality that travel is as much about mood and moment as it is about geography.
Some of what I’ll write about will be glamorous. Much of it won’t be. I’m drawn to places that feel slightly unresolved — cities in transition, resorts with secrets, corners of the world that don’t quite fit the narrative being sold about them.
You’ll read about where celebrities and power players go, yes — but more importantly, why they choose those places, and what that says about the world right now. You’ll read about destinations before they’re trending, and sometimes after they’ve been misunderstood. You’ll read about the details that don’t make it into a brochure: the silence, the discomfort, the odd rituals, the small moments that make a place stick with you.
This won’t be a guide on how to travel “better.”
It’s an invitation to travel more curiously.
Some weeks, I’ll be on the ground. Other weeks, I’ll be following the trail from afar. Always, I’ll be asking the same questions: Why here? Why now? And what does this place tell us that we’re not supposed to notice?
If you like your travel writing curious, a little restless, occasionally skeptical, and always observant — welcome.
We’ll wander from here.

I'm not cool, but I've always wanted to be!
❤️ WOWZERS!
I’m in like Flynn!
Go Gal! ❤️ Go Paula! ❤️
It was always a life long ambition of mine to write about the world, its foibles, its places, cultures, societies and its complex web of people. I nearly made it…in fact almost to the winners finishing line, along with the applicable credentials of a tertiary level Diploma of Travel & Tourism, and, a partially studied Journalism Degree at University, along with fabulous encouragement & advice from the founders of the publishing company called The Lonely Planet. They were located only a few klms from where I was working in an independent Regional Newspaper Group. But, as is prone to happening in many peoples journeys, the timings were not good from the perspectives of life, family and various other ‘adulting’ responsibilities unfortunately.
I’m going to be your number one cheerleader here Paula! You’re going it in a very similar way I had in mind and was drawn to.
YOU’RE GOING TO SMASH THIS OUTTA THE BALL PARK WOMAN!
I cannot wait!
Sorry Paula, at this stage I’ve really not got the $$$’s yet to fully sub to your stack. As soon as they begin to be re-earned again sometime later this year, I’ll be in like Flynn in that regard as well.
Just go all out for it Paula, don’t hold back. I’ve got a great feeling that this is going to bring along with it all, some very well deserved rewards and recognition as you’ve truly earned them.
You’re going to be incredibly great at this! It’s the perfect time and perfect timing to go after it all on this platform to begin with, and then build from there.
May God bless and walk with you, protecting you all the way along 🙏☦️
BIG FAT WELL WISHES🍀 ARE SENT YOUR WAY STRONG, SWEET WOMAN! 🙏❤️😘
