The Cinderella Bull Ride of the Calgary Stampede

This year at the Calgary Stampede something amazing happened – a Cinderella Bull Ride of the year.

It’s not very often in the world of live, unscripted events that you get a picture perfect Cinderella ending to a story – but that’s exactly what happened this year at the Calgary Stampede.

The Calgary Stampede is famous for many reasons – but mostly for the $2 million dollars it gives away in prizes every year.

Athletes from all over the world are invited to compete in the All star of rodeos in events like bronco riding, calf roping, steer wrestling and barrel racing. But the main event is the bull riding.

This year, a young Texan named Cody Teel came to try his hand at the big prize. But after two days it wasn’t looking good for him – the weather was hellacious (pouring down rain, thunder and lightning), he’d been thrown from one bull and a bad ride with another. But then Cody hit it big in the wild card round despite the pouring rain and won a spot in the finals – and nailed it. Which is how he became the Cinderella of the Calgary Stampede.

As the average annual salary for a professional bull rider is $30,000, and a $100,000 pot can be life changing. Cody, for his part, swore he’d spend it all in one place – land.
